Many historical places of Balıkesir that should be seen and visited are within the boundaries of this central district. The most important of these is the mausoleum of Karesi Bey, who was one of the flanks of the Seljuk State and later established an independent principality and, after the annexation of the principality to the Ottoman Empire, the ancestor of Karesioğulları, who played a major role in the transition to Rumelia. Yıldırım Beyazid Complex, which is also known as the Old Mosque among the people, is of great importance as it is the earliest Ottoman building in the district, and the first "Selatin Mosque", that is, the mosque built by Sultan Yıldırım Beyazid. In addition, during this period, Yıldırım Beyazid built a bridge in Değirmen Boğazı Nature Park in 1390 AD. Zağnos Mehmet Pasha Complex and Zağnos Pasha Mosque, which were brought to the city in 1461 by Zağnos Mehmet Pasha, the famous vizier of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, are also among the important historical buildings of the district. The Clock Tower, which has become the symbol of Balıkesir, is located in the courtyard of the National Forces Museum on Anafartalar Street. The tower was built in 1828 by Giritli Mehmet Pasha, similar to the Galata Tower. Windmills, which are considered the ancestors of wind turbines today, are also found in Karakol District of Karesi district. Although the exact construction date of these windmills is not known, it is assumed that they were built in the late 1800s.
In the district, there are mainly Kuvayı Milliye Museum, Press Museum, Balıkesir National Photography Museum, Devrim Erbil Contemporary Arts Museum and Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality City Archive.
Located within the borders of Karesi district, Değirmen Boğazı Nature Park is one of the first places that come to mind when Balıkesir is mentioned. Although the park has an area of 250 hectares, it is a promenade area with 52 different tree species, offering suitable opportunities for those who want to have a daily rest and a pleasant time. Şehitler Park, built on an area of 70 thousand square meters, is the largest park in the district in the district center. It offers its visitors the opportunity to have a good time with its walking area, outdoor fitness equipment, playground and cafeterias in the park. In addition, Çamlık Recreation Area, which is under construction, will be one of the attraction centers of the district when it is completed.
